SHFC talks on revolutionizing housing delivery in new 4PH model at Ateneo Housing Summit

QUEZON CITY – The Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC) participated in the 2nd Housing Summit organized by Ateneo de Manila University’s (ADMU) Ateneo Center for Social Entrepreneurship (ACSEnt), an organization that promotes nation-building through social entrepreneurship. The two-day event aimed to strengthen collective efforts toward ensuring accessible, sustainable, and dignified housing for every Filipino by encouraging knowledge-sharing about socialized housing among stakeholders.

Key shelter agencies such as DHSUD and Pag-IBIG, local government units from all over the country, real estate organizations such as NREA, OSHDP, SHDA, as well as civil society and social researchers attended the gathering to exchange ideas—sometimes heatedly—about how to improve housing delivery, especially in terms of affordability.

In his presentation, SHFC’s Executive Vice President Atty. Junefe G. Payot explained the Corporation’s role as the main implementer of the Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino Housing (4PH) Program. He emphasized that of the three administrations under which he has worked, it is only in the present administration that an ambitious goal to once and for all eradicate the huge housing need is being undertaken.

Previous programs, which produced a little over 100,000 units annually, have barely made a dent in the housing backlog estimated at 6.5 million. He discussed the efforts of the SHFC management, led by President and CEO Federico A. Laxa, to come up with innovative financial and production models to scale up and speed up the production of in-city housing while ensuring their quality and affordability for every Filipino family.

The summit, held at ADMU’s Escaler Hall, concluded on March 19.
